i am neurotic
Some of these people are seriously neurotic. Okay, I can sort of understand not wanting to touch the bathroom door knob after you've washed your hands. But this?
I can’t stand drying my hands with any kind of towel if only one hand is wet. I have to purposefully make the other hand wet and then dry them both at the same time, because the feeling of one dry hand rubbing against a towel makes me want to hurl.
Good thing he/she doesn't live in my house with my popcorn ceilings:
I can’t stand multiple bumps close together. Corn on the cob, multiple pimples, popcorn ceilings… anything with multiple bumps. They seriously freak me out.
Ever wonder if the person you're talking to is really listening?
sometimes, mid-conversation, i’ll pick out a random word the other person has said. that’s when the downfall begins. i’ll mentally break down the word and count the number of letters. if odd, i’ll do what i can to make it even according to my system where capitalization and punctuations each count as one character. case in point: i’ll capitalize the word to make it an even number of characters but i’ll then add a punctuation at the end, just because i feel it needs one. but wait, it’s odd again. that means adding an ellipsis before the ending punctuation, with each dot counting as a character. total count? 5 characters added to the original word, all to make it even. only then, will i feel satisfied to fully return to the conversation. …oh gawd, i need help.
I think this one is made up:
I’m afraid of pickles and mayonnaise. To a lesser degree, I’m also afraid of lettuce and some kinds of salad.
And this guy would drive me freakin' nuts:
Before falling asleep, I have to kiss my fiancee, say “I love you,” and then “good night.” She must repeat this action in order. If she does not, I have to start the process over again.
So if you want to feel normal, go visit. Or maybe you'll find out you're just as freaky as they are.

FREEDOM DOESN'T MEAN DOING WHAT YOU WANT
From Wonkette:

dept. of meet your candidates

Who Said It?

“Freedom is not a concept in which people can do anything they want, be anything they can be. Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do.”

If you answered “Rudy Giuliani,” give yourself a jaunty Soviet cap and report to Siberian Work Camp #207. Thanks for playing!

A SUCKY SATURDAY
Picking up from my previous post about my field trip, and why I'm depressed, I have one more thing to add. We had sort of a weird Saturday this past weekend. My husband called me to come outside in the front yard to show me a baby bird in our flower bed. This was a baby, BABY bird. I'm talking probably just hatched within the last 24 hours. It was lying there in the dirt. But it moved! And it was breathing. Well, I have had some experience with putting baby birds back in their nests (it's not true that the parents will reject it if you pick it up). I picked it up and cupped it in my hands to keep it warm. The problem was, there wasn't a nest anywhere. From where the bird was, the only place the nest could have been was on the roof. Waaayyyy up on the roof. Much too high for us to even get a ladder and climb up there. And this was not a situation where the parents would be able to come and take care of it. It was too little and could not even let out a peep.

What to do, what to do.........

I brought it inside and placed it lovingly in a plastic container lined with paper towels.

My first thought was to go to the wild bird store I have driven passed many times. This is a store that sells bird seed, bird houses and feeders. But surely they might know something about baby birds.

First I had to take a shower because I was feeling kind of gross. But before that, my sister called so I talked to her for a while.

And meanwhile, my husband found another baby bird. It was already dead, however.

On my way out to my car, I looked in the flower bed. And there was ANOTHER ONE! But it was dead too.

The people at the bird store were very helpful considering I didn't buy anything. They gave me a phone number of a group that helps to place injured wildlife. I called them and got an answering machine. Left a message. While waiting for their return call, I was off to Petsmart to buy the cat food the woman at the bird store told me might help. Luckily, while in Petsmart, before I spent any money on this special cat food for the bird, they called back.

The woman told me of several places that would accept the bird. She also told me that to keep any native wildlife, one has to have a special permit. I forget if this is a State law or a Federal law. Anyway, the closest place was in Plano (Texas), at least a 45 minute drive away.

I called my husband and asked if he felt like taking a drive to Plano. He gave me an enthusiastic "Sure, I guess." So I headed back home. We scooped up the baby bird who was still breathing and headed off to Plano.

Unfortunately, there was alot of traffic. It was taking FOR-EV-ER! And, more unfortunately, whilst in the left hand lane of all this traffic, a woman in the middle lane decided she wanted to be in our lane and she found out she could not go through our car, and she left a good dent in the right front fender.

I could not bring myself to call 911, even though it WAS a matter of LIFE AND DEATH! So I called the non-emergency police number and we proceeded to wait. And wait. I kept checking on the little birdie and he seemed to be doing fine. FINALLY, after probably 20 minutes, an officer came. We then drove over to a parking lot so we could stop blocking traffic.

So then he had to get all the info so he could write up the accident report. And while he was doing this, the little baby bird died.

Shit! That REALLY sucked!

Well, I guess that's the way it goes sometimes. That's nature, right? But why did it have to die? Damn! I still have to bury the little birdie somewhere. I guess I'll do it tomorrow.

TRIP TO THE OIL FIELD
I thought I would have something really cool to write about with my trip to the oil field. But I've decided that it's just going to be boring.

Oh, I actually had a great time and was never bored during the trip. The people I went with--two other techs that I work with and the drilling superintendent who drove us around--were great! And I found the rigs awesome. The technology that goes into drilling a well is fascinating. I have lots of pictures like this rig:

And these pipes:

And this pit:

And this other rig:

And these drill bits:

But who wants to see a bunch of rigs, pipes, pits, and bits?

I do have a few pictures of me on a couple of the rigs, wearing a hardhat. But I'm not going to print those because I'm too FAT! I hate seeing pictures of myself.

Which brings me to the other reason I'm not going to write about my trip. I've been too depressed lately. I'm too fat, my house is a wreck, and I hate George Bush. So, until I get over my whiney mood, and start appreciating the fact that at least I have a decent house to live in, and get off my butt and start losing some weight, and...... well, I can't do much about W......... you probably won't be hearing much from me.

A FIELD TRIP TO THE OIL FIELD
I did not take this picture of an oil rig, but stayed tuned because week after next I hope to have my own pictures posted. Next week I'm flying to West Texas with some co-workers and we're going to visit some of the rigs that the company I work for uses for drilling. As I said, we're flying out to West Texas and then we'll be driving to New Mexico (a couple of hours away). All of the wells are in the Permian Basin. Since getting my job as a drilling technician, I've been wanting to learn more about the actual process of drilling and completing a well. I hear all these terms used around the office by the engineers, such as when they're talking about the casing and the tubing, and tripping in the hole, and closed-loop systems, and horse shoe pits. I think this is going to be fascinating. I'm even going to have to wear a hard hat!

WILL WE EVER BE NORMAL AGAIN?
At various times since we moved into this house last October we've gone between being somewhat organized to complete disorganization. The first time was, of course, when we first moved in. Then there was when we had new carpet put in upstairs. Oh, that was fun. Almost everything that was UPstairs had to come DOWNstairs (except the very heavy furniture). I wish I had pictures of what my family room looked like when I came home from work and the room was stuffed with furniture, boxes, etc. And there was my husband and two sons just crowding around the TV amidst all the stuff because that was the only place to go.

I like this house. Well, sort of. It needs work. We've been painting, painting, painting. And we are almost done! Yay! There are still lots of things I want to do to it, such as installing a pocket door in the half bath. Currently, the door swings into the small bathroom and it's quite awkward trying to squeeze between the toilet and the wall so that the door will close Plus the light switches are on the wall OUTSIDE the bathroom. We think it's funny to turn the light off when someone is in there.

Today, my husband started ripping up the nasty, once-white carpet downstairs so we can get ready to install laminate flooring. I'm glad we are getting rid of that yucky old carpet. But we are going to be in chaos once again. At least for a while.

Family Room
(the blue stuff is the carpet padding):

Looking down into the living room

Notice we still have boxes. After we get the new flooring downstairs, we can then buy some bookcases and FINALLY unpack some of those boxes!

I can hardly wait to live normally again!

DON'T BE FOOLED
Disclaimer: I'm not a big fan of Hillary Clinton. In fact, I am hoping that someone else (Bill Richardson!) receives the Democratic nomination.

Recently, as I'm sure EVERYONE has heard, Hillary Clinton supposedly adopted a Southern drawl -- actually it was more than that; it was a Southern Black drawl -- when speaking to a crowd in Selma, Alabama. Even today while listening to a conservative talk host on my drive home, I could only shake my head and wonder: What the HELL was she thinking?? For someone who was suppose to be so shrewd politically, did she not know that this would ruin her bid for the White House. It would be to her what the famous scream was for Howard Dean.

Maybe I'm the last person in America to find this out, but she was actually quoting a hymn. Listening to the whole thing, in context, I would not have thought twice about it. I was even going to post the video of her speaking in this new drawl of her's and caption it with "What the HELL was she thinking." But after listening to the expanded version, and not the version that right-wing websites, radio stations, and TV news stations are playing, this is a non-story for me.

I hate using a Fox News clip, but it was the only one I could find. The "drawl" occurs near the beginning.

Maybe it's because I'm from Texas, but I don't hear much of a drawl.

Anyway, the point of this story is that I was fooled. And this reminds me of something else I heard last week on the radio. I wasn't much interested in my usual station, so I switched over to KSKY, a station in the DFW area, to hear what Mike Gallagher was talking about. Well, Gallagher had a guest host sitting in for him. I didn't catch the name of the host, but he started off by saying that Barack Obama must just be forgetful. He forgot to tell us that his middle name was Hussain (spelling--don't know how he spells his middle name), he forgot to tell us that he attended an Islamic school, and he FORGOT to tell us that his mother's family owned slaves!!! WHAT THE HECK????

There are some presidential candidates whose middle names I don't know. Bill Richardson, Joe Biden. I don't know their middle names. They must have forgotten to tell me.

I was amazed to hear the "attended an Islamic school" story being repeated again since that has pretty much been debunked. He attended a PUBLIC school in Indonesia, which had Muslim students.

But, his mother's family owned slaves? What does that have to do with ANYTHING?

Well, I'm sure there are some liberal news people who are saying things they shouldn't (though I haven't found them yet.... hee hee hee). But I hope we will all be vigilant during this election season (did I just say "election season?"). Get the facts. And DON'T BE FOOLED!

QUILT
Here's a quilt I finally finished a few weeks ago when my friend Haleigh Anne came over and we had a sewing weekend. I originally started on this about two years ago. Had it quilted the next year. And got the binding on during our sewing weekend. It was really a fairly easy quilt and should not have taken so long. I just have a problem with finishing things that I start.

FRONT

BACK

Recently, when I went to my mom's house for my step father's funeral, I took it with me to show to her, and then decided to leave it with her. I felt she needed some brightness in her bedroom. At first I covered her up with it (it's a sort of large lap size quilt). Then later she asked me to fold it up and put it on a table. I told her I wasn't going to leave it if she wasn't going to use it. She said she wanted to hang it on the wall. Well, I guess that's okay, but it'll probably still be folded up in the same place two years from now.
